This is the second in my Seaside Chimneys series of sketches. I have a fascination for drawing telegraph poles and chimneys, parts of our surroundings that we unconsciously ignore in our daily lives. The way the cables direct the view around us and the variety in chimney design and shape make beautiful subjects to draw.
This was an early morning sketch outside the flat we had rented for a holiday in St Ives. I love the meandering 'S' shape in this composition, the lines from the bottom left around to the disappearing harbour wall behind the buildings above.
